G-d’s Healing Pathway and It’s Relation to Reconciliation and Salvation

Did you know that all human cells are able to reproduce themselves only a certain number of times? It’s true. This number is estimated to be about 50. Dr. Hayflick, who is a scientist at the University of California, San Francisco estimates that this would place the human lifespan at about 115 to 120 years! Go figure. This is one of those “V-8" moments for humankind because in Genesis 6:3 this was already laid out, “ ...yet his days shall be 120 years.”

Now we are going to explore our Jehovah Rapha, otherwise translated as “I am the L-rd that healeth thee (Exodus 15:26). What is healing? The word heal comes from the Anglo-Saxon word haelan , which means to be or to become whole. Notice it does not say cured.  Curing is the elimination of the signs and symptoms of disease, which may or may not correspond to the end of the person’s disease or distress. The diagnosis and cure of disease provide the focus for medical care in a sickness-cure system. While this is certainly not wrong, it is not a complete plan. When it is estimated that 85% of health problems are either self-limiting or chronic it becomes clear that something in addition to the cure of a disease is needed. That something is healing. Some of the differences? Healing may occur without curing. The person who has become quadriplegic and uses an opportunity to recommit to living a life of meaning and service is healing. A mother of young children who consents to radical invasive surgery for an otherwise incurable cancer is healing by coming to a new relationship with the disease and making choices based on a decision to live for her children. The surgery may not cure the disease, but she  is in a healing process. On the other hand, curing is almost always focussed on the person as a physical entity, a body. If the physical problem cannot be fixed the statement is that “there is nothing more we can do for you”. Healing is multidimensional. It can occur at the physical level, but it can also occur at the other levels of the human system- emotion, mind and spirit.  Healing can be said to be an emergence toward a right relationship between any or all levels of the human experience. It is dynamic. It is a process and not a state. It always affects the whole person, no matter at what level the shift actually takes place.  Curing may or may not be possible, but healing is  always possible. And although curing follows a predictable path, healing is always creative and unpredictable in both process and outcome. And because the direction of healing is always toward self-transcendence, something new is emerging, and the whole that was before, becomes part of a bigger and deeper whole. While death is seen as failure in the sickness-cure system, it is really a natural process in the healing system. Death is actually the unfolding of the life process. Think about it. Death is actually the ultimate healing because only then is the spirit released back to YHVH for final disposition. The outcome of course, is up to each individual and their relationship to Him.

As Rabbi Davis spoke not too long ago, many people expect instantaneous healing or curing of their infirmities just as they expect a hamburger “their way” at a drive through restaurant. Now in some cases history records that indeed in certain instances instantaneous supernatural healing has and can occur (James 5:16, John 9:1-7 and Mark  10:46-52). In the first and third cases TRUST was listed as a pre-requisite. In the second case Yahshua says the man’s blindness was allowed so that at that particular point G-d’s power might be seen at work in him. But many expect the healing to be of a physical nature and don’t even consider the possibility that the healing during a physical illness may be of a spiritual nature. Many lose their so-called faith in G-d because they attend a predetermined healing service and find that they weren’t healed the way they had planned. Personally I do not believe G-d condones or even participates in these types of circus round-ups the way they are conducted today. I have never seen an observable illness cured; not one!

In G-d’s pathway of healing miracles there are two types. One can be termed instantaneous. These were dramatic, sudden, instant miracles in which Yahshua healed with supernatural spiritual power. But I might add that these were all outward afflictions where the miracle could be verified. I also want to point out that Yahshua never preplanned a public “ faith healing service” as you see today. But in most cases of healing it’s progressive healing where people were healed as they went. The healing process started at point A, and time had to lapse to get to point B where the full manifestation of healing occurred.

In Daniel 10, the Bible cure reveals a mystery: while G-d answered Daniel’s prayer instantly, there was a progressive manifestation of the answer over a 21-day period of  time. A supernatural being appeared to Daniel and revealed to him that: “... from the first day that thou didst set thine heart to understand, and to chasten thyself before they G-d, thy words were heard, and I am come for they words” (Dan.10:12). In other words, the moment Daniel prayed on that first day, G-d heard and answered his prayer. But 21 days passed before the answer to his prayer was manifested.

The moment we pray for healing, G-d hears and answers us. But be careful, it is answered in the way that is best for us, not necessarily the way we are expecting. G-d does not conform to the “have it your way” society we live in. The manifestation of our prayer’s answer may take a number of days, months or years. We must understand that in many cases there is a spiritual battle being fought just as it was with Daniel.

Later, in Daniel 10:14 the supernatural being revealed further that a vision received may be for a season or passage of days.

An example of this Bible cure principle occurring in the Brit Chadeshah can be found in Luke 17 in the story of Yahshua healing the lepers. When they cried out from the roadside, Yahshua instructed them to go at once and show themselves to the priests. So we read, “As they went, they were cured. The Amplified Version translates the Greek this way: “And as they went they were cured and made clean.” In other words, these lepers experienced a process of healing. As they went, they were cured. Notice something here? FIRST, they obeyed Yahshua, did what He commanded, and then they progressed down a path of physical healing. Interesting to note that the spiritual component was already there. Many times with us it is not. We want what we want when we want it and simply ask G-d because we want a quick fix.

This progressive healing was also demonstrated with Namaan in the Tanach.(2 Kings 5:10). While G-d gave him assurance of his healing through Elisha, Namaan had to make his way to the Jordan and dip himself seven times in the waters. There was a process, a  passage of time that occurred before the full manifestation of his healing was evident. Notice the healing was revealed through Elisha. Again we see a parallel of the salvation process. We are first reconciled through Yahshua, and then we head down the path toward complete healing, or salvation if you will.

Another interesting point to make is that whether or not G-d uses instantaneous or progressive healing, He often uses natural substances as part of His plan.

This pathway is revealed in John chapter 9 where Yahshua heals a blind man. In verses 1-7 Yahshua touched the blind man, but he wasn’t healed at His touch in this case. For after He touched the man, he was instructed to go an wash in the pool at Siloam. Here is where the man’s heart and willingness to obey comes in. After, and note, after that Yahshua spat on the ground and made clay ointment with his saliva, which He then applied to the blind man’s eyes. As the blind man went to the pool and washed the mud from his eyes, he was healed. Yahshua used both natural substances and the spiritual modes for this man’s healing. Similarly, in the Tanach we see from Namaan’s healing from leprosy occurred as he used the natural substance of the Jordan’s waters to wash himself. This can be likened to the living water of Yahshua HaMashiach.

Now, let’s outline the principles of YHVH’s pathway of healing.

1. YHVH has a specific pathway of healing for each individual.

While the testimony of others often serves as encouragement for you, their pathway may not be yours. Yahshua said to the leper in Luke 17,”Go thy way (Ch:19). The word way can be translated as “journey or life direction.” In other words, Yahshua is not specifying just any pathway of journey, but the specific and particular way that one leper must go in order to obtain his healing. G-d has a set path for each of us on the road to complete healing whether it be spiritual or physical and we cannot liken our journey to someone else’s. Another example again is found in 2Kings 5:10.

In the NIV it says “Go, wash yourself seven times in the Jordan”. Not everyone with leprosy should go wash in the Jordan, only Namaan. This was his specific pathway of healing from G-d.

2. Pray and seek G-d for your pathway of healing.

Seek means to study, search, follow, worship. You don’t pray and sit.

Because G-d is an infinite G-d, He possesses infinite ways to heal. His possibilities for your healing are unlimited by time or method. He is your Creator and He knows every  molecule in your body. He also knows your attitude and your heart better than you ever will (Psalm 139:13-16).

3. G-d uses the natural and supernatural to heal.

Don’t make the mistake of limiting G-d. Too many come to my office and tell me how they expect to be healed. In doing this they completely miss the point of Biblical healing. Remember, clay and saliva were used to heal the blind man in John 9. In Matthew 9 He simply touched the eyes of two blind men. In Mark 8 He spat on a blind man’s eyes and asked him if he saw anything. When the man could only see men who looked like walking trees, Yahshua then put His hands on the man’s eyes and he recovered. In each instance the same problem was healed different ways. You may have the same kind of cancer as someone else. Seek YHVH yourself and don’t become obsessed with someone else’s experience.

4. Your healing may be instantaneous- or it may be a process.

Let me say that in comparing healing to salvation, instantaneous healing does not mean instantaneous salvation. When this occurs, YHVH has simply found this to be the perfect situation for such a healing. He alone knows the road that lies ahead for the person receiving such unmerited kindness or chesed as it is known in Kabbalah. Remember, G-d says that His ways are not our ways, and His thoughts are not our thoughts (Isa. 55:8-9). Remember also in Daniel chapter 10: there may be a great spiritual battle going on in the heavenlies for your healing to manifest .In all of the instantaneous examples, again we read about a demonstration of true TRUST. This word by the way includes worship, which further implies action on the part of the believer.

Now from another tack let me share some advice for one who is seeking G-d’s healing. We must be informed about the potential of hasatan. Sha’ul gives these instructions: “Lest satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices... Put on the whole armor of G-d, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil” (2Cor:2:11; Eph. 6:11).Remember, the whole armor is Torah! So the first thing that one should ask is what it is that has attacked them?

Medicine approaches a medical problem the same way through a methodical diagnosing process. When or bodies are under attack it may be hasatan but it may be because of our own bad choices. Various illnesses may also be G-d’s way of teaching us and leading us where He wants us to go. Admit it, sometimes it is only through being put flat on our backs that we begin to look up. Living on mountaintops is nice, but remember it is in the valleys where the fertile soil lies and where growth takes place. A Christian physician named Reginald Cherry practices preventive and diagnostic medicine in Houston, Texas. Even he states in one of his books that he often explains to patients that they may have come out from under the umbrella of protection that G-d places over His own. Now if you have been here for any length of time , you have heard that the umbrella of protection in Torah.(Job 1:10). When we are disobedient or ignorant of G-d’s will for our lives, we can remove ourselves from G-d’s hand of protection. Then we become vulnerable to hasatan’s attacks. Perhaps our social and personal lives take precedence over mediation and prayer and we put off our Bible study because we are too tired from a days work at the job given to us by G-d in the first place. . Perhaps we feel that we have attained enough knowledge and that we no longer have to stretch out of our comfy situations and search for a deeper knowledge of G-d. Besides we reason, the less we know, the less we can be held accountable for, right? NOT! This is dangerous ground to tread. For if we don’t search G-d out through study and meditation, seek to understand G-d’s ordinances and commands  or do not follow that which we know to be true, we are committing spiritual suicide. Eating forbidden foods or speaking evil of another or even committing to something with an oath and not following through. There are numerous ways we demonstrate disobedience. Even so, we may be afflicted as Job as part of G-d’s plan for us even if we are doing our best to follow His commands and ordinances. It does not necessarily indicate that we have blatantly done anything wrong. Remember, G-d is our Creator and we are His to deal with however He chooses. Psalms 34:19 says “Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the L-rd delivereth him out of them all.”

Again, this parallels the road to salvation. It is a constant walk, one step after another. These steps should progress in a forward motion, not backwards or sideways. But we often take many detours because of simple disobedience, mistrust or sometimes because G-d has something to teach us in order to take us to a higher plane of understanding and relating to Him.. G-d’s ways are not our ways and unlike medicine, G-d does not always follow a given protocol for treatment of a problem. The Biblical cure does not ask what the doctor and medicine want us to do in order to find healing. The definitive question is What does G-d want me to do? The definitive answer is found in the following verses. 1Peter 5:7: Casting the whole of your care- all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns, once and for all- on Him; for He cares for you affectionately, and cares about you watchfully. Phillipians 4:6-7 states: ...but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to G-d. And the peace of G-d, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Yahshua. Next, test your options by the Ruach. In Colossians 3:15 Sha’ul writes” Let the peace of G-d rule in your hearts.” The Amplified Version expands this verse by indicating that the peace of G-d acts as an umpire in our hearts: “Let the peace ... from the Christ... act as an umpire continually... deciding and settling with finality all questions that arise in your minds.” The Ruach helps us sort through choices, not only in medical treatment but in our everyday lives until we reach a choice that brings us complete peace. While we pray for that peace, we must take steps of faith and test the options. We must pray, then once again take action. We read in Acts 16:6, “ Now when they had gone throughout Phrygia and the region of Galatia, and were forbidden of the Holy Ghost to preach the word in Asia...” From this we learn that the Ruach closes doors to certain options in our lives.

The Ruach acts as a check on our hearts from making certain decisions or from going in a particular direction. But we must be receptive to the Voice! Parents know that they can tell their little ones that a stove is hot and will burn. But the child doesn’t comprehend the concept burn until he or she touches it anyway. They could have been protected from an unknown danger had they listened out of obedience. But once the stove became forbidden territory it became more desirable. There is no difference with G-d. Our Abba seeks to protect and provide for us if we will only seek Him out and obey His ways. Again, another parallel to the process of salvation. If the person with a medical problem modifies the behaviour, takes the prescribed medicine and follows the medical plan of care, in most cases, physical healing occurs and health is restored. However, when a smoker who has a leg ulcer caused by poor circulation and smoking continues to smoke, they not only do not heal the ulcer, but run the risk of getting other smoke related diseases including lung cancer.. So it is spiritually. If we do not b’teshuva, turn away from the sin in our lives and seek YHVH through Yahshua, we deprive ourselves the very Breath of Life and we die.

Now I need to address death- the ultimate cure for those who love G-d. Although we are designed for the  purpose of fulfilling

a mission given us by HaShem, there comes a time when our physical bodies are no longer useful and we die. Remember He

created us for a purpose. We have been given the great opportunity of having a personal relationship with G-d, communing

with Him and praising Him daily. But in the end we will all meet him face to face where our final destination will then be

determined. We are transients here. Our home is meant to be with Him, our Abba This place is a training ground for us and we

must train hard for our time here is finite. Sometimes people suffer terribly before giving up their earthly body. And only G-d

knows the reason. In Deuteronomy we read: “The secret things belong unto the L-rd our G-d: but those things which are

revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever.” One of those things, which are revealed to us, is that if we love G-d, we

keep His commandments and carry the testimony of Yahshua as revealed in Revelation as well as throughout the Bible. His

admonishing us to obey Torah is continually repeated so that we may receive His blessings instead of his curses. Do you

realize that the trip from Egypt to Canaan could have been travelled in 3 weeks? It was because of hosen disobedience by the

people that it took 40 years instead.

At any rate, physical death is inevitable unless we are chosen and sealed to serve during the Tribulation or are taken in the Rapture. Death in many cases does not represent lack of faith, trust or disobedience. In some cases it is the result of our own arrogance and bad life choices. In some cases G-d may take us out to protect us from some even of which only He knows would have happened. And sometimes through our death, His glory is manifest. The point is, just because someone prays for physical healing as we tend to think of today and isn’t healed in that way, doesn’t mean the prayer has not been answered. What we must learn is how to pray as G-d would have us to do. That is for HIS WILL, and for HIS GLORY. We must take peace; “Be still and know that I am G-d”  as stated in Psalm 46:10. We must strive toward obedience in Torah and not look back. Once we become synchronized with G-d by relinquishing control of ourselves to Him, then and only then will total healing be manifest. This may take the form of physical healing with attainment of a higher understanding and love for YHVH, or physical deterioration with a deeper spiritual understanding and love of YHVH. But one thing is certain; for those who truly love Him and continue in His ways, the ultimate healing will occur with the end result being salvation and an eternity with Him who loved us so much that He sent part of Himself as Yahshua to show us how to live, how to prepare for  eternity and how to find our way home.
